About Us

Nestled in a peaceful bushland setting, just minutes from the heart of Castlemaine, is The Paddock – a sustainable housing development that fosters community and connection to nature.

Energy Efficient

Comprising 27 energy efficient homes, ranging in size from two to four bedrooms, each architect-designed townhouse consists of 4kW solar panels, double glazing, insulation, a private courtyard garden, and car parking (with EV charging connections). Hot water is powered by electric heat pumps, and each home has a split system for heating and cooling. There’s no gas connection; The Paddock is an all-electric development.

Gardens

Each home overlooks an expansive shared garden that includes wicking beds for growing fruits, vegetables and herbs, native plants such as grasses, wildflowers and indigenous herbs, eucalypts, orchards and olive groves. Two expansive lawn areas offer a peaceful place to sit on warm days, while natural wetlands provide habitat for our resident frogs, turtles and ducks.

Community

Residents meet regularly in the shared common house for Friday drinks and Sunday morning tea. Working bees are held monthly, and are a great opportunity to catch up with neighbours while spending time in the garden. Pot luck dinners and social outings are put on a few times a year.

Sustainability

People who live at The Paddock care deeply about the environment, sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint. Organic waste is reused on-site in compost bays and to feed our lovely chooks, and soft plastic is kept out of household rubbish and taken to a recycling centre every month.
